1. SR. ALEXANDRA (1943 – 2011)
Mary Martiz, in religion, Sr. Alexandra was born on May 9, 1943 to Sebastian Martis and Florine D’Sa at Shankarapura, Udupi district. She was the 4th among nine children. She had one brother and seven sisters.
God called Sr. Alexandra at an early age to be His chosen disciple in the Institute of Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa. After the final commitment, she worked at St. Joseph’s Convent, Mandya, St. Joseph’s, Gulbarga, St. Ann’s, Siddapur, Holy Rosary, Honnavar, Avila, Mysore, Holy Family, Mariapura, O.L.V. Somwarpet, St. Paul’s, Davangere Little Flower, T.Narasipur, Carmel Jyothi, Kudlur and St. Mary’s, Harihar. She worked in the above institutions as a teacher, headmistress, and superior. Her last assignment was at Holy Rosary Convent, Honnavar as Animator.
Sr. Alexandra was appreciated for her affectionate nature. She was very simple, friendly, gentle, kind, hard working and with a sense of humor. She loved children and youth and had a special love for the poor. Her administration was good and that motivated the staff to give their best. Wherever she worked she had left an imprint of God’s love and concern for everyone.
Sister suddenly fell ill in April 2011 and was under treatment at St. Philomena’s Hospital, Bangalore. Later, she was brought to Teresa D’Lima Eventide Home, Nagoonahalli for further treatment as she was attacked with paralysis one side. She was then shifted to Villa St. Joseph community.
The previous day of her death, Sister was taken to B.M. hospital as her condition was worsened. God found her ready and took her to himself on November 9, 2011.
