1. SR. MARY GONZAGA (1923-2008)
Born on October 3rd 1923, Sr. Gonzaga was the sixth child of Annie and Anthony D’cruz. While completing her teacher training at Trivandrum, she felt called to the religious life. She joined the CSSTs in 1952.
Sr. Gonzaga started her apostolate at O.L.H.C. Convent, Eravipuram. Sr. served as the H.M. of the Parish School there from 1953 to 59. Sister has served at different capacities at St. Teresa’s, St. Antony’s, Christu Vikas Convent, NSD, Aluva, and St. Teresa’s Convent Konniyoor and at Tamil Nadu.
Everywhere, Sr. Gonzaga made her loving presence felt, attending to the sick, caring for the orphaned and abandoned. She was engaged in all Church activities even at the age of 87. To the sisters she showed touching tenderness, though never refraining from timely corrections.
On retirement, Sr. Gonzaga came back to Eravipuram and remained there until her last breathe. Sister spent her life doing good to others. It is no wonder then, that she had a funeral service attended by crowds from all walks of life, ranging from the poorest to the rich, shop- keepers, corporate, police, clergy and the religious. Her demise after a brief illness was indeed a sudden and regrettable event to hundreds.
Sr. Gonzaga died as she lived, active and cheerful. Her one desire was to reach the heavenly portals in perfect peace. This she did! Sister had no ill will towards anyone. Her departure created a void in the lives of many, especially the locals of Eravipuram for whom she was a dear friend, sister and mother. The sisters too lost a mother and guide with her passing.
