SR. SEBASTINA (1927-2015)
Teresa was the 9th of the 13 children of Elizabeth and Peter Nilanthara. She was born on October 22, 1927. She was baptized on the 30thof the same month at Our Lady of Snow, Palliport. Teresa did her High School at R.V. Union H.S. at Cherai. She joined our Institute on June 21st 1953. She made her first profession at St. Teresa’s Convent Ernakulam on February 28th 1956 and took the name Sr. Mary Sebastina of Holy Angels. She made her Final Commitment on December 28th 1958.
Sr. Sebastina continued her studies at Our Lady’s Training Institute, Cochin. Sister worked as a teacher at many of our schools like St. Teresa’s Ernakulam, Villa Therese, St. Teresa’s Konniyoor, S. H. Mundakkayam and St. Joseph’s Kottayam. Sister has served in many of our houses in Kerala after her retirement.
Sr. Sebastina was very good at heart, quiet, gentle, sincere and generous. Till she fell ill, she was regular in all the community exercises. She had great love and respect for Priests. She had been here at St. Joseph’s Thrissur from 1987 onwards. Sister was in charge of the Boarding till the year 2000. Children loved her very much. She was very compassionate towards the poor and the destitute.
Sr. Sebastina was adorned with the ‘Best Teacher Award’, while she was the HM of St Joseph’s UP School, Kottayam. Sister was very faithful to her duties and was always led by the Holy Spirit. One could easily feel the true religious spirit and holiness in Sr. Sebastina.
